“It takes a village to raise a child”. This November, we are creating that village composed of artists from different fields to promote the rights of the children.
Inspired from the CANVAS and ANG INK's - published book “Karapat-Dapat”, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) and BLACK CANVAS present BATANG KARAPAT-DAPAT (a Mini-Festival on the Rights of the Child). This multi-arts event bringing together various artists will run from November 20-23 at the different venues of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This gathering is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Batang Karapat-Dapat will offer workshops for children through CCP Arts Education’s Batang Sining and Sining Alamin, Karapat-Dapat Multi-arts Workshops and CANVAS' Karapat-Dapat book-giving activities. The highlight of this mini-festival is a storytelling collaboration performance entitled “Mga Kuwentong Karapat-Dapat” (Nov 20 and 23, 2pm) featuring independent artist groups such as Anima Tierra, Daloy Dance Company and Anino Shadowplay Collective, with performance and direction by Abner Delina Jr. a.k.a Kuya Fidel of Batibot revival. Three CANVAS-published stories (“Tahan Na, Tahanan”, “Nadia and the Blue Stars” and “Inang Kalikasan’s Bad Hair Day”) will come to life in the form of shadowplay, dance and music, focusing on the value of home, society and environment.
For Batang Karapat-Dapat, CCP, CANVAS and BLACK CANVAS hopes to build a community of children, teachers, parents and artists to promote a safer, peaceful and loving world not only for kids, but for everyone. This event is supported by our artist partners and event sponsors: UBS and Direct Aid Program (DAP) of the Australian Embassy of the Philippines, Save the Children Philippines and The Araneta Foundation to name a few. The shows are free admission and strictly for reservation only. For inquiries, please check the website and social media accounts of CCP, CANVAS and BLACK CANVAS.
Together, let us create a better world and celebrate children’s rights through the arts!
