Ang Pitong Pagaspas ng Adarna: UPLB Stages a Modern Adaptation of Ibong Adarna

Ibong Adarna is one of the classic Filipino folk epics and also considered to be one of most celebrated literary masterpieces. It is a story about love, kindness, deceit and forgiveness that follows the journey of three brothers- Don Pedro, Don Diego and Don Juan as they search for the magical bird that would save their father from illness. Because of its narrative, there have been several film and theater play versions of Ibong Adarna.

The Department of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, Univeristy of the Philippines Los Ba?os proudly presents “Ang Pitong Pagaspas ng Adarna”. This theatrical play is  produced by the THEA 102 and THEA 154 students of UPLB. THEA 102 (Theater Communication) is a core course in the BA Communication Arts program which covers the analysis of the elements of theater and their multifarious components. THEA 154 (Drama for Children) is a major course in the BA Communication Arts program which introduces students to creative drama and the fundamentals of theater for children. The theatrical production will serve as the final requirement of the said two courses.

With the contemporary adaptation of Ibong Adarna written by Vladimeir Gonzales and directed by Jeremy Dela Cruz, the play is designed to represent the places in UP Los Baños such as La Berbanya (which the acronym is LB), Piedras Fertilitas for the Fertility Tree” and Las Campanas for the Carillon Tower (in exchange of Armenya).

The play will be staged on April 3 and 4, 2019 (4PM and 7PM) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños CAS Auditorium. Tickets are sold at Php 99 each.
