"From the Latin word petra, meaning rock or stone, was drawn the English word petrified, the transforming of organic matter into stony substance, and in its metaphorical sense, to be frozen in fear. Hence comes the concept of the show “Petrified,” a presentation of Galerie Anna, which opens on July 6.
Artists Richard de la Cruz, Kel Hilario, Marloun Mago, Lei Manto, Edwin Ladrillo, and Kyle Vizcara conflate their individual styles with the three-dimensional art of sculpture. In transforming sculptural volume and tactile reality into illusionistic paint, they consequently affirm the fluidity of the two disparate art forms at the same time subverting the other’s integrity: substantiality versus appearance." - Cid Reyes
