MULAT, A solo exhibit and fundraiser by Weena Mendoza
EVENT #: 58043
Weena Mendoza's watercolor and doodle art will be featured in a two-week exhibit at the Passion Arts Gallery! This is her first solo exhibit and she will be displaying at least 25 paintings. All paintings will be for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to WTRC's anti-human trafficking and anti-abuse projects.
Below is a description of her exhibit in her own words:
"Life is more than work it is also ministry;
Ministry is more than service it is also sacrifice;
Sacrifice is more than self denial it is also self discovery;
Self discovery is more than empowering it is also being vulnerable;
Vulnerability is more than exposure, it is courage.
Courage breeds curiosity and action, creativity and vision, awareness beyond self
Mulat is about this journey from simply living to loving"
The central body of work in this exhibit was inspired by my exposure to the evils of human trafficking, on line sex trafficking (or cybersex), abuse and slavery. It depicts the women who have had to hide themselves because of shame and disempowerment. It is through the help of others who have supported their journey to self-awareness and empowerment, those who continue to work with them to restore their dignity, that these women are able to begin a journey that allows them to emerge from hiding and stand strong.
Other art pieces in the exhibit are the antithesis of all that I said above. They are simply artistic renditions of locations and images that make me happy and that bring warmth to the heart. They aim to usher us into a mode of relaxation and over all wellness and satisfaction; to bring back memories of good things and good people, to evoke a feeling of safety and security and unbridled gratitude for just being...
